Translate.org.za

Translate.org.za was a South African localisation project focusing on FOSS that has also been involved in supporting localisation efforts elsewhere. Its work was also InterAfrican, in scope, including coordinating the IDRC-funded African Network for Localisation (ANLoc) project (2008-2011). It has been replaced with Translate House.

Description

The description from its old website: "a non-profit organisation focused on the localisation, or translation, of Open Source software into South Africa's 11 official languages?. Translate intervenes wherever computers fail their users, thus we have created fonts for Venda and a South African keyboard on top of our localisations of GNOME?, KDE?, OpenOffice.org, Firefox and Thunderbird."

Their projects included (among others), localisation of OpenOffice.org, Firefox, and Thunderbird into South African languages, notably: Afrikaans, Ndebele, Sesotho, Sesotho sa Leboa, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa, and Zulu (as well as English).

Translate.org.za was a co-organiser of Africa Source II (in Uganda, 2006).
