PanAfriL10n - PanAfrLoc - AfricanNetworkForLocalisation

The African Network for Localisation (ANLoc) was a project funded by IDRC (2008-11) and run by Translate.org.za. It continues as a network of localisers in Africa and beyond. ANLoc succeeded the PanAfrican Localisation project, which was also funded by IDRC.

ANLoc's mission: "to empower Africans to participate in the digital age by removing the last inch limitations imposed on language usage by the limitation of technology."

Organization and accomplishments

Meetings, workshops, and conferences

The ANLoc project held several meetings and workshops over its period of activity. The project meetings included:

  • Kickoff meeting 2008
  • Ain Sokhna, Egypt, 31 March to 2 April 2009
  • Hartbeespoort, South Africa, 26-30 April 2010
  • Nairobi, Kenya, 21-23 Feb 2011

ANLoc also co-organized the Conference on Human Language Technology for Development (HLTD 2011), Alexandria, Egypt, 2-5 May 2011, and supported the Action for Global Information Sharing 2011 conference (AGIS'11), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1-2 December 2011.
