Translators Without Borders
Translators without Borders (TWB) "is a non-profit association set up to provide pro-bono translation services for humanitarian non-profits. It was established in 2010 as a sister organization of Traducteurs Sans Frontières, founded in 1993 by Lexcelera (formerly Eurotexte)" a localisation company based in Paris, France. Description
TWB "facilitates the transfer of knowledge from one language to another by creating and managing a community of NGOs who need translations and professional, vetted translators who volunteer their time to help." It currently facilitates translation of about 2 million words a year. (TWB website)
TWB has undertaken various projects, such as support of the Wiki Project Medicine?. During the Ebola crisis in West Africa (2014-15), it facilitated translations of a number of materials.
In 2015, TWB collaborated with Microsoft on developing Swahili translation for the latter's products. "The translator, running on Microsoft cloud services, will see Lumia phone users and personal computers running on Windows? translate any language to Kiswahili." (Daily Nation)
Kenyan translation center
